America’s Energy Advantage Statement on the Passage of H.R. 6

Washington, DC – June 25, 2014 – America’s Energy Advantage today released the following statement following passage of H.R. 6, legislation that would allow for the unlimited and unchecked export of American natural gas.

“The changes to the Natural Gas Act approved by the House of Representatives today are unnecessary and harmful to the public interest of American consumers, manufacturers and the economy.

H.R. 6 establishes an unrealistic 30-day deadline for the Department of Energy to conduct an economy-wide public interest review of LNG export applications.  An artificial deadline is unworkable and unnecessary, especially considering that the Department has just announced changes to the existing process that are supported by manufacturers and exporters alike.

The benefits of America’s natural gas bounty to our domestic economy – robust job creation, manufacturing investment, affordable consumer prices and lower utility bills – are in the public interest of all Americans, and the export of American natural gas should be considered in this light.  H.R. 6 has it backwards, as the bill prioritizes America’s overseas competitors at the expense of U.S. consumers and manufacturers.”
